Supply List
This is my basic list of supplies. I like to use American Journey and DaVinci paints. Winsor Newton is also a great brand and Grumbacher Academy is an excellent inexpensive brand to start. It may be necessary to use a catalog to obtain all needed supplies. I recommend Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff (1-800-227-2788 or www.cheapjoes.com) as they have a big watercolor supply selection and knowledgeable people to help with selecting items. If you are unsure about what to purchase, we will discuss supplies and answer any questions at the first class.
Paints:
- Lemon or Hansa Yellow (cool yellow)
- *Don’t buy Lemon Yellow (Nickel Titanate)
- Permanent Rose Quinacridone (cool red)
- Ultramarine Blue
- Burnt Sienna
- Any other colors you may have
- Aureolin or Gamboge (warm yellow)
- Cadmium Red or Perm. Red (warm red)
- Pthalo Blue
- Black (for value studies only)
Brushes, nylon synthetic (not animal hair):
1″ flat
#4, #10 Rounds
I like Robert Simmons “White Sable” brand

*Please note that cheap animal hair brushes are a waste of money and good animal hair brushes are way too expensive, look for nylon (synthetic) brushes

Watercolor paper pads and lighter weight paper may be used for practice pieces.
