DAY 1 – Making Acrylic Do What You Want It To
SUBJECT: Great Blue Heron with Irises
Jan will demonstrate the versatility of acrylics while stressing the importance of composition and tonal value to complete a painting each day. After prepping a canvas for Day 2, class will trace image from pattern provided onto a canvas. Jan will demonstrate painting subject using acrylic in a manner similar to watercolor. Class will begin painting subject until lunch break. Jan will demonstrate painting in background in a vignette style. Class will complete subject and/or paint in background to completion.
DAY 2: Adding Texture and Movement With Modeling Paste
SUBJECT: Oysters
Class will trace image from pattern provided onto canvas prepped with modeling paste. Jan will demonstrate painting subject(s) using acrylic in a thick (impasto) fashion incorporating the background into the foreground. Class will paint subject(s) using a similar manner until breaking for lunch. Jan will demonstrate laying in a background. Class will choose which background they will use and complete their paintings.
Supply List
- Two 16″x20″ Canvases
- Acrylic Paint: Your usual palate as long as it contains a Warm and Cool Red and Blue, Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Green, Burnt Siena, Burnt Umber, Paynes Gray, Black, White, Dioxizin Purple.
- Synthetic Brushes with spring: Your usual and 1/2″ and 1″ flats, small and medium rounds. Royal and Langnickle gold taklon sets are a great value at WalMart.
- Palate Knife
- Carbon paper and Ball Point Pen
- Small Spray Bottle, Divided Water Container, Paper Towel, Scissors, Ruler, Masking Tape
