Home of the Art Guild of Louisiana
The Art Guild of Louisiana is proud to call BREC’s Cedarcrest Park home. Thanks to a long-standing partnership with BREC (Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge), the Guild operates out of the park’s recreation building—affectionately known as “The Studio in the Park.”
Located at 2490 Silverest Avenue, in a neighborhood park just off Old Hammond Highway (east of Airline Highway), the Studio in the Park has served as the Art Guild’s creative hub since 2004. This light-filled, well-equipped space is dedicated by BREC for the Guild’s use, providing a home for our workshops, meetings, demonstrations, and open studio sessions.
Inside, you’ll find over 1,000 square feet of bright, comfortable workspace with ten 3′ x 8′ worktables, an art reference library, still life props, and a photo booth with professional lighting for photographing artwork. A microwave and refrigerator make it easy to spend the day creating. The Studio also houses the Guild’s administrative offices. The building is fully handicap accessible, and the Guild proudly maintains a policy of inclusive and accessible recreational opportunities for everyone.
Did You Know?
Art and creativity do far more than inspire — they foster imagination and innovation, strengthen cultural identity, and build emotional connections among people. The arts also boost local economies, enhance education, spark social awareness and positive change, and promote mental well-being and fulfillment, making them vital to the health and vibrancy of every community.
BREC’s Vision and the Arts
Cedarcrest Park is a special part of the community, and BREC’s recent “Imagine Your Parks 3 (IYP3)” Plan recognized its potential to foster social connection, community building, adult education, and creative engagement—including a specific call for Adult Art programming. The Art Guild of Louisiana is honored to help bring that vision to life through our partnership at the Studio in the Park.
We deeply appreciate BREC’s commitment to recognizing the arts as an essential part of community well-being and livability. Their ongoing studies affirm what artists know by experience: when we invest in arts and culture, we build stronger, more connected, and more vibrant communities.
The surrounding park provides ample space and inspiration for plein air painting, while the large gravel lot ensures convenient parking for artists and park visitors alike. On any given day, you might find painters at work indoors, sketchers scattered throughout the park, or friends gathered around a table sharing ideas over coffee.
