March 13 – May 8
Independence Park Theatre Gallery
American visual artist Andy Warhol began painting in the late 1950’s. He was a pioneer in the Pop Art movement of the late 1950s to the 1960s. He became famous as a major player in the pop art culture with paintings like the “Campbell Soup” can series and neon-colored faces of Marilyn Monroe and other celebrity portraits, wooden Brillo Pad boxes, and many other advertising logo/products, all works that challenged traditional ideas about art and originality.
For this exhibit, member artists were challenged to channel their inner Andy, choosing their favorite Warhol painting to interpret, or come up with their own personal “pop” art creation. Other subjects and styles were also accepted.
