Larry Downs
Larry Downs is a local award winning artist and instructor who has been teaching art techniques in and around Baton Rouge for over 25 years. Larry is an accomplished artist in several mediums including watercolor, graphite drawing, acrylics, and colored pencil. He teaches multiple art levels from beginner as well as advanced. He has been an instructor for the Art Guild of Louisiana for many years, as well as at LSU in the Lagniappe, Leisure, and OLLI adult programs.
Description
In this workshop, Larry will focus on the building blocks of great art and how to “see” like an artist. You will learn how to break down subjects into simple shapes, capturing movement with quick, energetic strokes and creating confident outlines with contour drawing.
The workshop is for beginners and those wanting to improve their skills. Maximum 14 participants.
Supplies
Graphite Pencil #2 as starter
Sketch book or drawing pad at least as big as 9″ x 12″
White vinyl plastic eraser
Kneaded eraser
Pencil sharpener, the guild has one or bring your own
Blending stump (or you can use Q-tips as an alternative)
Ruler 12″ or 18″ (preferably clear)
TIP: You can check Walmart, Blick, Hobby Lobby, Mo’s Art Supply, and Amazon for Complete Starter Kits w/ essential tools – it should include pencil, stump, eraser etc.
Complete drawing pencil sets can be purchased with 2H, 4H and 6B pencils but a standard #2 st pencil will work for this class.
