Description
Limited to 10 participants, this class will make use of the popular book Portraits from Life in 29 Steps by John Howard Sanden (available online $5 used / $40 new) on Monday evenings over four weeks. Each week will begin with a brief overview and optional demonstrations from the instructor, who will serve primarily as a guide and facilitator of Sanden’s methodology throughout the process. Rather than formal instruction, the emphasis will be on collaborative learning and individual exploration of Sanden’s process, with the instructor offering support, feedback, and insight as needed. The book details the method for alla prima oil painting, but could be easily adapted by experienced acrylic artists. Over the course of four weeks, participants will work on completing three portraits from photos, culminating with live models the final week. Multiple live models will pose the final Monday night, shared among artists in groups of three.
