Studio in the Park
The main facility for the Art Guild of Louisiana is the Studio in the Park. This BREC building is located in Cedarcrest Park in Baton Rouge. Art Guild functions such as workshops, meetings, demonstrations, etc are held at this facility.
Nestled at the end of Silverest Avenue, in a inviting residential neighborhood just off Old Hammond Highway, and just east of Airline Highway is the BREC Cedarcrest Park. Thanks to a partnership between BREC and Art Guild of Louisiana, (AGL), formerly Louisiana Art and Artists Guild, the park recreation building is often filled with artists painting during an open studio session or participating in art workshops. Dubbed the ‘Studio in the Park’, BREC dedicated the use of the building to the Art Guild of Louisiana. The Studio in the Park has served as ‘home’ base to the nearly 200 member organization since 2004.The Studio in the Park, with over 1,000 square feet of well lit space, is usually filled with artist members of the AGL for open studio three days a week. The building is outfitted with 10 3′ x 8′ worktables, an art reference library and a variety of art props for setting up still life arrangements; a photo booth and lights where the guild photographer takes photos for the website gallery, which also available for members who want to photograph their artwork. There is even a microwave and a refrigerator for keeping snacks/lunch … all the amenities one needs to spend a day or a few hours creating. The building also serves as the administrative office for the guild. The surrounding park area provides artists with plenty of space and subject matter for plein air painting as well as indoor painting. The large gravel parking lot promises ample parking space to both attendees of the park and the artists/instructors/guests attending workshops or other Guild activities.
